Railroad Museums, Preservation, and Historical Societies Menu
- Ahead of the Torch is the Online Journal of North
American Railroad and Industrial Preservation.
- California's Narrow Gauge Railroads promotes the
discussion of the history, development, and preservation of narrow
gauge railroads in California.
- California
Trolley and Railroad Corporation is a group of Bay Area
residents dedicated to the restoration, preservation, maintenance, and
promotion of all aspects of railroadiana as it pertains to the Santa
Clara Valley's rich railroad history.
- The Great Circus Train and Parade is the official
source of information on the Great Circus Train, which travels
through the Wisconsin countryside on the way to the Great Circus
Parade Showgrounds in Milwaukee. The train consists of flatcars
with dozens of colorful circus wagons. Available information includes
a route map, daily schedule, history, and a train album page.
- Colorado
Railroad Museum has information about the Museum, including
location, hours, schedule of upcoming events, and Museum equipment
roster. The Museum was established in 1958, and is dedicated to the
preservation of Colorado's railroad history, particularly to record
the coming and going of Colorado's pioneering narrow gauge mountain
railroads.
- Colorado Tourist Rail Road and Railroad Museum
List provides information on Colorado railroad attractions.
- Fort
Smith Trolley Museum provides information on the museum,
including rates, a schedule, and a list of things to see.
- Galesburg Railroads has information about railroads
in Galesburg, Illinois. This includes information on railroad history,

- Georgetown
Loop Railroad provides information on the historic
Georgetown Loop Railroad in the spectacular scenery of the Colorado
Rockies. Located in Georgetown, Colorado, 50 minutes west of
Denver and 30 minutes east of Summit County on Interstate 70, this
steam train ride is a popular destination in Colorado.
- Illinois Railway Museum Homepage has extensive
information on the museum, including directions to the museum,
schedule, equipment roster, and a picture gallery.
- Intermountain Chapter NRHS has information about this
chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, including meeting
location and schedule, upcoming events and trips, projects, and a
Chapter equipment roster. The Intermountain Chapter is located in
Denver, Colorado.
- Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society Home
Page describes the activities of the Society,
formed in 1965 with the dual goals of saving one of the unique Merchant
Navy Class locomotives for posterity and maintaining it in running
order.
- Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation - Project
1225 has information about the organization and their
Project 1225, which is the restoration and operation of
Pere Marquette #1225. Information is also available on the work
schedule, 1225's operating schedule, a gift shop, a media library,
and links to related preservation sites and resources.
- Minnesota Tourist Rail Road and Railroad Museum
List provides information about and links to railroad
attractions in Minnesota.
- Monticello
Railway Museum Home Page has information about the Monticello
Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois, midway between Champaign and
Decatur.
- The National Toy Train Museum has information
on The National Toy Train Museum, headquarters for The Train Collectors
Association, an international organization of men and women dedicated
to collecting and preserving toy trains. This site describes the
museum, which includes five operating layouts in Standard, 0, S, G, and
HO gauges. The museum is located in Strasburg, PA.
- New York State Existing Railroad Stations
is a database with information on railroad stations in New York.
The site is organized by county, and is searchable.
- North Alabama Railroad Museum has information
about the museum. The North Alabama Railroad Museum is located at
Chase, Alabama, and includes the Chase depot, a display passenger train,
26 pieces of rolling stock including 3 diesel locomotives, and 5.5 miles
of the former NC&StL line from Decherd TN to Huntsville AL. Excursions
are offered to the public from April through October. Available
information includes hours of operation, school activities, and a
roster of equipment.
- North American
Tourist Railroad and Railroad Museum List is a list of North
American tourist railroads, trolley lines and museums that is organized
by state.
- North Carolina Transportation Museum
at Historic Spencer Shops is located on the site of what was once
Southern Railway Company's largest steam locomotive servicing
facility. It now houses examples of a variety of forms of
transportation, including an antique automobile exhibit, and a 120,000
square foot locomotive roundhouse currently undergoing a major
restoration.
- The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Railway
Historical Society provides a description of the Chapters
planned activities and links to other sites, including other Chapters of
the NRHS.
- Pacific Railroad Preservation Association has
information about the Association. The Pacific Railroad Preservation
Association (PRPA) is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization
dedicated to restoring, maintaining, and operating historic railway
equipment of the Pacific Northwest. The association is the official
caretaker of the SP&S #700 and also owns a fleet of passenger cars.
- Puffing Billy
Railway has information about the Puffing Billy
Railway, an Australian tourist railway that runs 13.5 km from Belgrave
to Emerald Lake (Lakeside) in the Dandenong Ranges (40 km from Melbourne,
Victoria). It is a fully steam operated railway. Available information
includes timetables and a special events calendar.
- RailroadCity is the official home page of the
Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum and the Horseshoe Curve National
Historic Landmark in Pennsylvania.
- Railroad History Database is a
project is to record the history of the US railroad network in one
comprehensive database. The database aims at providing immediate
access to the history, both operating and corporate, of any segment of
the US railroad network.
- South Carolina Railroad Museum has information
on the museum, including timetable and fares, SCRM news, a roster
of equipment, and other information.
- The
Southern California Scenic Railway Association is working
with the City of Los Angeles and the
Travel Town
Museum (in Griffith Park in Los Angeles) to provide "a window to
the railroad heritage of the American west." The Association was
incorporated in 1984 for the purpose of preserving the history of
railroading in the Southwest, and helping to make that history
available to the general public. This page provides a library section
and departments describing the Association and Travel Town.
- Steamtown National Historic Site is the official
Web site of the Steamtown Volunteer Association, a non-profit
cooperating association of the Steamtown National Historic Site,
supporting its educational and historical research and preservation
efforts. Steamtown National Historic Site (SNHS) is part of the US
National Park Service and is devoted to the interpretation of the
Golden Age of North American Steam. This site is maintained by Dennis
Martin, a member of the SVA.
- www.rrhistorical.com Home is your one stop address
on the Web for railway historical and technical societies, museums and
tourist lines, and other railroad related items. This site also features
a railroad-theme clip art collection.
