CONTRACT GRADING

MAKING A CONTRACT FOR GRADE: Each person will make a contract with the instructors for the grade which that person wishes to earn in the course. To earn that grade, the person must satisfactorily complete all of the requirements listed below. If a person doesn't complete all of the contracted work, the instructors will use their discretion in assigning a course grade. A person who completes all of the contracted work satisfactorily will earn the grade for which she/he has contracted.

RE-NEGOTIATION OF CONTRACT: You have the option to re-negotiate your contract for a grade different from the one which you originally chose. You can exercise this option anytime up to our last class meeting. Please fill out the contract, and bring it to our next class meeting to give to the instructors.  Should extenuating circumstances arise that influence your ability to complete the course work for which you have made a contract, contact the instructors at once to discuss the situation.

CONTRACT TERMS:

GRADE OF A:

1. Attend and participate in all but two full class meetings.

2. Complete all required readings for the course.

3. Keep a journal of responses to readings and personal observations.

4. Successfully complete writing portfolio and submit it to instructors at mid-semester and at the end of the semester.

GRADE OF B:

1. Attend and participate in all but four full class meetings.

2. Complete all required readings for the course.

3. Keep a journal of responses to readings and personal observations.

4. Successfully complete writing portfolio and submit it to instructors at mid-semester and at the end of the semester.

GRADE OF C (OR P):

1. Attend and participate in all but six full class meetings.

2. Complete all required readings for the course.

3. Keep a journal of responses to readings and personal observations.

4. Successfully complete writing portfolio and submit it to instructors at mid-semester and at the end of the semester.

FORMAT OF WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments done outside of class need to be typed, double-spaced, on 8 x 11 white paper, with 1" margins. You'll need to proofread each writing assignment carefully to ensure that each is well-written, (i.e., good sentence structure, grammar, spelling, punctuation.) An exception to this policy will be personal responses that are written in longhand form during class time.  If you need individual help with your writing assignments, contact one of us well ahead of the due date to meet for a conference and review your rough draft with you. Another useful resource for individual help is the Learning Center in the MSU Library, where free tutoring is available to all students.
