The Weekly Reader:

a radio program for readers, writers, listeners, and fans

Listen to it on Thursday morning on KMSU FM (89.7)

What is it?

It's a thirty-minute public radio program broadcast each Thursday (at 10:05 a.m.) as part of the "Minnesota Morning" program on KMSU radio, located on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus. KMSU's home page is at this URL:

 http://www.mankato.msus.edu/dept/kmsufm/welcome.html

How did it get started?

In 1990, Suzanne thought it would be a good idea to have a venue for local, area, and regional writers to be interviewed about their writing and to read some of it on the air.  So, with the help of Marilee Rickard, station manager of KMSU, Suzanne began taping the program during the winter of 1990-91.

Who is featured on the program?

--MSU faculty talking about and reading from their scholarly and creative work

--students completing MFA degrees in creative writing at MSU

--local and regional poets, fiction writers, memoirists, and news columnists

--this year's guests will include John Janc, John Rezmerski, Carol Perkins, Penka Schachkova, Jim Nickerson, Shirley Grundmeier, Karin Hokkanen, Cassandra Labairon, Terry Davis, Aaron Rudolph, Blake Hoena, Kathleen Piehl, and many more!

What's happening with the program now?

This year the program is being hosted by Emily Kretschmer and Suzanne Bunkers.
