Recent activities:
During summer 2002, I was awarded a MSU Teaching Scholar Fellowship for study in Europe.
I was one of 50 teachers who participated in a two-week study and travel visit to
Holocaust memorial sites in Europe, sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Interfaith
Holocaust Foundation. In addition, I spent several weeks visiting WWII historical sites
and identifying primary source materials in archives in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Finally, I did research at the Midwest Center for Holocaust
Education in Overland Park, Kansas. As a result of my summer's work, I developed a new
general education course, English 213, "Diaries and Diarists," that I am teaching during
fall semester 2002.

Two of my scholarly articles were accepted for publication:
"Whose Diary is It, Anyway? Issues of Agency, Authority, Ownership." Forthcoming in
<a/b: Auto/biography Studies>, spring 2003.
"Dorothy Parker: Feminist and Social Critic." In <Women and Satire>. Ed. Rhonda S.
Pettit. Fairleigh Dickinson University Press (forthcoming fall 2002).
I was invited to do these presentations:
"'Studying Unpublished Diaries.' Research and Discovery: Using the Iowa Women's
Archives." Symposium: "Making Women's History: The Louise Noun - Mary Louise Smith Iowa
Women's Archives at Ten Years." University of Iowa, November 2002.
"Diaries of Women & Girls--Programs & Preservation." Wisconsin Librarians Association
Annual Convention. Middleton, Wisconsin, October 2002.
"Diaries as Windows into Women's Lives." Delta Kappa Gamma, Mankato, MN.
September, 2002.
"The Life of a Country School Teacher." McGee Country School Reunion/Coffin's
Grove Fest. Manchester, Iowa, August 2002.
Last, but not least, I completed my second two-year term as director of the University
Honors Program at MSU and happily returned to full-time teaching. ;-)
