Visiting the Kokenge Farm near Lohne, Germany, in June 2000
In June 2000, my brother Dale, my daughter Rachel, and I
traveled to northwest Germany to meet and visit with our Kokenge cousins.
Barbara (Kokenge) Pasternak, her husband Heiner, and their son Nils drove to
Lohne to take me to the site of the old Bernard Kokenge farm, where Adelheid
Kokenge-Slotty now lives with her husband and son. Adelheid's sister,
Mechthild Kokenge-Schneiders and her husband Wolbert Schneiders also joined us
for a visit. Then we all drove over to the farm where the American Kokenge
cousins' ancestors were Heuerleute (hired hands) before they immigrated to the
United States. Here are a few photographs that I took; more will be posted
soon.
