Student Association Of India
Minnesota State University, Mankato

Preamble:
We, the concerned students of Minnesota State University, Mankato in order to promote international goodwill and friendship, unite to ordain and establish this constitution. Let there be among us understanding and joy; the former derived from our efforts as students and scholars, the latter based on a respect for our social and cultural heritage.

Article I
The name of this organization shall be the Student Association of India.

Article II
The purpose of this organization shall be:
To promote understanding, unity and cooperation among students, faculty and the community.
To create an awareness of the Indian culture and heritage, within the university and the general community.

Article III
This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, veteran’s status, national origin, sex, sexual preference, age, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, status due to receipt of public assistance or inclusion in any other group or class against which discrimination is prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Article IV
Any student currently enrolled at Minnesota State University, Mankato is eligible for membership in this organization.
Only members with origins from the Republic Of India (India after 1952) hold the following rights:
Holding positions in the Executive board
Voting on all motions passed by the Executive Board
Voting for Executive Board Positions
Members are expected to attend a minimum of three meetings per semester.
Membership fee for this organization shall be five (5) dollars per member for each semester. Failure to pay the fee within the first three weeks of the semester would result in the suspension of the individual from the organization in their capacity as members.

Article V
The Executive Board of this organization shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and a Treasurer.

Section 1: President
He/She shall act as the President of the organization and preside over all the meetings of the Student Association Of India.
He/She shall form an Executive Committee made up of all the officers of the organization, which shall advise and aid him/her in organizing various programs.
He/She shall form special committees to perform various tasks.
He/She shall act as the top spokesperson for the organization.
He/She shall be responsible for conducting the regular meetings of the organization.
He/She shall be eligible for the position of President, provided he/she can prove active participation in organizational activities in the preceding semester prior to elections.

Section 2: Vice President
He/She shall assume the office of the President in the event of the President’s inability to discharge his/her duties.
He/Shall assist the President in his/her administrative tasks as directed by the President.
He/She shall be eligible for the position of Vice-President, provided he/she can prove active participation in organizational activities in the preceding semester prior to elections.

Section 3: Secretary
He/She shall be responsible for the maintenance of minutes, correspondence, and other secretarial duties.

Section 4: Treasurer
He/She shall be responsible for all the finances of the organization and shall present monthly financial reports to the President and SAI.
He/She shall present an Annual Financial Report to the organization at the end of the term.

Article VI
The elections for the officers of this organization shall take place at least once a year and the term of office for the elected Executive Board members shall not exceed one year.
The elections shall be held during the Spring Semester of Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Voting is open to all recognized members.
The Executive Committee Elect shall immediately assume responsibilities of governing the organization.
A no-confidence motion can be passed on the Executive Board by the General Body, if it is dissatisfied with the functioning of the Executive Board.
Any six members or 25% (whichever is more) of the total membership at the meeting have the right to demand that the President prove his/her majority with a vote of confidence at the next meeting.
If the President is unable to secure more than 50% support of the total membership, the members are required to elect a new Executive Board.

Article VII
Proposed amendments to this constitution shall be initiated in one of the following ways:
By a majority vote of the recognized members. (see Article IV)
An amendment shall be proposed by at least one members and seconded by another member. A discussion will be subsequently initiated on the proposed amendment. Ratification of the proposed amendment shall be done by a vote of 2/3rd of the voting members present.

Article VIII
No member of this organization shall have right to take unto him/herself, for whatever purpose, the name, the emblem, the activities or any other sign, symbol or token of the organization.

Article IX
In the event of the dissolution of the organization, all the assets and finances of the organization shall be given to the International Student Office.
