- AgCareers focuses on jobs in the agriculture field.
- America's
Job Bank is a service of the United States Department of
Labor and state public Employment Service Agencies. It provides job
seekers with the largest pool of active job opportunities available
anywhere. For employers it provides rapid, national exposure for job
openings. There is no charge to either employers who list their job
vacancies nor to job seekers who utilize America's Job Bank to locate
employment.
- CareerBuilder is a searchable database of
the classified help wanted ads from dozens of newspapers from across the
United States.
- Career Path
Coach Midwest Virtual Job Fairs provides the ability for
job seekers to contact companies directly by using the CPC Virtual Job Fairs.
- EngineerJobs focuses on jobs for engineers
and technical professionals.
- HigherEdJobs focuses on jobs in the higher education
job market for both faculty and staff positions.
- HotJobs allows employers to post job openings
and it allows job seekers to search the job listings, post their
résumés, and apply for jobs.
- HR.com focuses on jobs in human resource
management.
- JobCentral employment search engine is owned
and managed by DirectEmployers Association, Inc., a
non-profit employer association.
- JobWeb is from the National Association of
Colleges and Employers. This site provides an electronic
gateway to employment information.
- LegalStaff focuses on jobs in the legal profession,
including attorneys, law clerks, paralegals, legal administrators, and
related professionals.
- MavJobs.com is the job board for students and
alumni of Minnesota State University Mankato.
- Medzilla focuses on medical-related jobs, including
biotech, pharmaceutical sales, health care, and medical careers.
- Minneapolis StarTribune Working is an
employment search tool for both job seekers and employers.
- Monster.com is a huge collection of job listings.
This site is one of the market leaders among the Internet job search
sites.
- MonsterTrak.com is
a job search service that focuses on the college graduate labor market.
Job listings range from internships for college students to part-time and
full-time employment opportunities for college graduates. Companies can
post their job openings and people can post their résumés.
It is a division of Monster.
- Net-Temps is an employment portal targeted
specifically to the contract and temporary employment markets. The
Net-Temps résumé bank includes hundreds of thousands of résumés. Job
seekers can post résumés and search for jobs at no
cost. Recruiting firms pay a monthly fee to subscribe to Net-Temps.
- Phoenix
Link focuses on interim and full-time management jobs for
experienced executives and technologists.
- RetiredBrains.com focuses on retired people who
want to return to work.
- RxCareerCenter focuses on jobs in the
pharmaceutical industry, including pharmacy and pharmacist jobs.
- Senior Job
Bank focuses on jobs for senior citizens (which they define to
be people older than 50).
- ShowBizJobs focuses
on jobs in the entertainment business.
- SouthernMinnesotaHelpWanted.com is a website for both
job seekers and recruiters that focuses on Southern Minnesota.
- Top 100 Electronic Recruiters provides
links to the best on-line recruiting sources. This valuable service
is provided by Interbiznet.com:
The Internet Business Network, which also provides other useful
information on electronic recruiting.
- TrueCareers provides a searchable database of jobs,
focusing on professional jobs that require a college degree and
experience.
Pay Information Online
- Bureau
of Labor Statistics National Compensation Survey provides
data on occupational wages for localities, geographic regions, and the
nation. Users of the National Compensation Survey can
Create
Customized Tables by searching the National Compensation Survey
database by area, occupation, and work level (which is essentially the
Point Method of setting pay).
- ERI Economic Research
Institute offers research database software applications and
reports relating to area wage and salary differentials, salary survey
position pay, area cost-of-living differentials, and other human
resource and demographic information relating to employee pay and
relocation planning.
- Salary.com is
an excellent source of information on compensation issues. This site
includes the Salary Wizard, which allows the user to get
market pay information for specific job titles and geographic
locations. The site also includes salary news, salary advice, and other
valuable items.
HRM Information Sources Online
Here is a wide variety of sites with information on human resource
management (including industrial and labor relations). These sites will
help both employers and employees find answers to employment-related
questions.
- America's Labor Market Information System (ALMIS)
produces labor market information and tools in a variety of media and
formats for use by job seekers, employers, and workforce development
professionals.
- Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS) is the agency within the
U.S. Department of Labor responsible
for collecting information on the labor market. This site makes BLS
data available via the Web. Available information includes data, the
economy at a glance, surveys and programs, publications, and research
papers.
- Corporate
Watch is a site "committed to exposing corporate greed."
The site tracks alleged abuses of workers by corporations, including
issues such as the treatment of workers by US companies in overseas
plants and reports on labor conditions around the world.
- Department of
Labor is the official Web site for the US Department of
Labor. This site has valuable information for both employers (including
small businesses) and employees. The site features eLaw, which
explains employment and labor law (including Equal Employment
Opportunity law and safety laws from OSHA, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration). Employees can explore issues such as the
family and medical leave issues.
- Employment
and Training Administration (ETA) is the agency within the
U.S. Department of Labor with the mission to ensure that all Americans
have access to the resources they require to successfully manage their
job lives, and that U.S. businesses have access to the skilled workers
and training resources they need to successfully compete in a global
economy.
- FirstGov is the Web portal to the US Government.
- HR Internet
Guide provides thousands of links to websites and software
resources of interest to Human Resources professionals and students.
A wide variety of topics are covered, including recruitment and selection,
compensation, benefits, training and development, HRIS, safety, and
law/legal.
- ILR
Home Page at Cornell
University for lots of useful resources on Human Resource Management.
- Legal
Information Institute is a site provided by Cornell
University's Law School. This site is one of the best sites I've found
for information on laws.
- National Labor
Relations Board is the official site for the NLRB, a
government agency dealing with unions and labor relations. This site
features access to numerous official documents and case reports, which
are of use to both unionized employers (or employers in a union
organizing campaign) and employees.
- O*NET - The Occupational Information Network is
the U.S. Department of Labor's replacement of the Dictionary of
Occupational Titles (DOT), which is a comprehensive database
that identifies and describes occupations; worker knowledges, skills,
and abilities (KSAs); and workplace requirements for jobs across the
country in all sectors of the economy.
- Occupational Outlook Handbook is the U.S. Department
of Labor's guide to career options and outlooks.
- PAQ
Position Analysis Questionnaire is a structured job analysis
questionnaire that measures job characteristics and relates them to
human characteristics. PAQ has been used since 1964 for reliable and
defensible job analysis.
- The Salary Calculator allows you to determine the
salary you would need to make in a new city, based on cost-of-living
differences.
- Society for
Human Resource Management represents the interests of
more than 67,000 professional and student members
from around the world. SHRM provides its membership with
education and information services, conferences and seminars,
government and media representation, and publications that equip
human resource professionals for their roles as leaders and
decision makers within their organizations.
- Society for
Human Resource Management - Minnesota State Council has
information about SHRM in Minnesota, including events, local
chapters, and volunteer opportunities.
- Southern
Minnesota Area Human Resource Association (SMAHRA) is the
Southern Minnesota chapter of the Society for Human Resource
Management.
- WorldatWork used to be the American Compensation
Association. WorldatWork is the source for compensation,
benefits, and total rewards information.
- Workforce Online is a Web site
designed for HR professionals. It provides ideas, solutions, and
trends.
- U.S. Supreme Court Decisions from
Cornell University's Legal
Information Institute.
