How a Project Is Built
Prepared by: Ron Johnson
How does a housing subdivision become a housing subdivision?
We may consider showing 2 different examples- one as a petition for improvements; city builds the project and special assesses the developer, and the other as the developer constructing the public improvements and city only approves plat, pays for oversizing, etc.
Have students choose to build
something in the City—it could be as simple as adding a 4-season porch to a
home or as complex as building a new strip mall. Each student could then
research the necessary steps to see their project to completion. It could be a
good lesson in variances, permits, City inspections, land us planning, and City
politics!
