The mission of the Sports Fanatics is to gain enough support and backing to implement a plan to purchase new sport jerseys for the Dakota Meadows Middle School in Mankato Minnesota. In the past the middle school athletes have always used hand-me-downs from older programs for their individual sports season. Thomas, Cass, Laura, Ben, Justin, Evan, and Chrissie with supervision from their coach Patrick Hallahan have come up with a plan of a! ttack that would enable them to succeed towards their goal. The team has been able to line up an important meeting with the district athletic director to see if their plan can move on. This is an important part of the overall mission Mr. Hallahan has in store for his team of students. Mr. Hallahans intentions are to have the team responsible enough by the end of the MSU spring semester to act on their own with out the aid of a coach. Hallahan feels there have been some bumps along the way in trying to get his team to understand the fine art of Public Achievement. In the early stages of his team meetings most of the time was spent getting to know the team and organizi! ng them into a frame of mind where they knew that the success of the project all depended on them and not their coach Mr. Hallahan. Now that we are in the second have of the semester Mr. Hallahan feels the group is on task to start implementing their ideas. This first meeting with the athletic director will give the group a definite path they need to take towards their next step.

We are pleased to report that the final destination the Dug Outs and Sports fanatics were trying to reach has been reached. Through out the spring the two groups were engaged in numerous meetings with key people involved in Mankato area sports. Through out the process the groups stayed on task for the most part. They contacted ESPN the magazine and were able to put together a nice project that can easily be started. The last couple weeks the two groups came to the conclusion that they would not be able to start the project but instead could put it into a folder and hand it over to next years PA groups. The Dug Outs and Fanatics are very proud of the fact that even though they can't participate in the fund-raiser they were still partly responsible for implementing the idea. Hopefully next years groups will feel the importance of supporting youth athletics a Dakota Middle School and take on the task of completing ! the Fund raiser that these two groups have started.
