Bayfield- The Bayfield trip is coming up fast and there was one event that has change from the last meeting. The fish fry is on and has moved from Saturday night to Friday night. There was a conflict on Saturday night with a couple of the club members. Ryan Deering is providing the fish that evening from Cornucopia. Cornucopia is knowen as a quant drinking village with a fishing problem.
Isle Royale- This year’s trip to Isle Royale was an event full one. We started out Wednesday morning with warm weather and blue skies. As we got to Duluth, the temperature had drop down to about 70 degrees and the drive up the north shore was scattered showers. When we got to Grand Portage, the lake wasn’t to rough, so we started out for the island. About 5 miles out, one boat had some propeller problems, so we decided to head back to Grand Portage to fix the problem. Once we where back and had fix the boat, it was getting late to go out to the island. We stayed the night on the main land and the next morning headed out for Island. When we got there, there was no room on the dock to park a boat and all but one shelter was taken. We talk to the group that was on the island and they said they were leaving in the morning for home, so we unloaded the cooking supplies into the empty shelter and anchor the boat’s off shore for the day. The wind had pick up that day, so diving was limited to the America. The next day, we decided to head around the island to the Glenlyon. The waves where coming out of the North West, so it look like it was going to be a good day. When we got there, the wind was shifting and the waves where now coming out of the South West. We decided to head back before they got bigger. When we got back to the dock and had a bite to eat, it started to rain. We decided to stay at the island in case the weather turned bad. It rained most of the night with the wind picking up. The next morning, the weather had improved, but the lake was still rough, so the diving was once again on the America. That afternoon, the lake calmed down enough to head out to the Chisholm and the Cox to make a dive there. The next day, we headed back to the main land to head back home. It still was a good trip and had a lot of fun. Next year could be an interesting trip. The lake this year is down about 2 feet. If it drops any more, we may not make it back there next year. Parking the boats at the dock was challenging and had to be careful of rocks.
Cozumel- The Ellis has made a date for the Cozumel trip this coming winter. It is going to be February 1-8th. The cost at this time is going to be about $2300.00 for two. They are going to be flying Sun Country and staying at Hotel Cozumel. If you are interested in the trip and would like to sign up or want more information, please contact Linda Ellis at Parkview Travel Office-507-444-9038. I will be adding more information in later news letters.
à Next Club Meeting is September 11th ß 8:00 pm. The August meeting will not be held due to fair week.
